After going through my internship, corporate life might not be for me. The everyday routine of waking up to the same path and place. Working to fulfilled another person's dream caused me to not see the point of living my life that way. It is not a lifestyle I wanted. It would felt like a bottomless pit of endless goals. Therefore, I would choose to avoid corporate life. It is understood that without experience or proper training from a well-establish company, I would risk a huge part of my life chasing my own dream that would be impossible to materialize.
Hence, this is my personal career plans. After graduation, I would proceed to fulfill my dream of backpacking around Malaysia. In this diverse country of Malaysia, travelling would expose me to a variety of individuals from different backgrounds. A backyard discovery that allows me to learn and better myself.
Before Chinese New Year 2016, I plan to apply for internship at a Singaporean event company. Managing event has always been part of what gets me excited each and every day. The challenge of chasing time and having multiple back-ups to back-ups when executing will allow me move out of my comfort zone. However, this time I would choose a small medium enterprise as I would like to understand the difference between the size of companies and the culture it practices. Going to Singapore would give me the chance of a change of scenery in terms of transportation and culture.
Continuing my journey of self-discovery, I would be applying for the work and travel program to the United States giving me chance of international exposure. Placing me in an even more diverse avenue to learn from others to improve myself.
I believe that moving into the workforce at the steady pace is the key to a stable personal development. Before the end of my work and travel trip in US, I would then apply for a position in either a multinational company or a SME depending on the work culture between the two. This is to learn some key skills in managing my own business one day.
At the end of the day, my goald is to have my own enterprise where I would be able to inspire others to take the alternate route if given the chance. Explore their own road and path in life.
Future Development Required
Below are some key areas I need to learn and improve on:
Receiving feedback is not only just about listening, it is also about acting upon it to ensure constant improvement. I would need to make time for myself to always evaluate and self-reflect on the feedbacks of others. I would need to figure out a method to deconstruct, understand and implement the feedbacks provided by others.
Active listening has never been my strongest attribute. The lack in this skill was mainly due to my own habit of not taking notes during a conversation. I could only remember the gist of a conversation instead of the full story. I am researching on the methods to practice active listening. Furthermore, I need to constantly remind myself to always take down notes.
Communication is crucial. It is a wide skill to have that covers from simple conversation to alloborate presentations. Communicate is to concisely convey a message to the another party without having to cause any misunderstanding. Learning to talk to people from all walks of life is important, regardless of age and background. Hence, I believe I should polish up my communicating skills.
